With the introduction of all-in-one printers, stand alone scanners are already an endangered piece of technology. Their size and portability do make them useful, however, for frequent scanning. Follow the steps below for help using an HP Scanjet 4100 Scanner.

      Turn on your computer. Plug the USB cable from the HP 4100 scanner to an open USB port on your computer.

      Turn on the HP 4100 scanner. Open the lid and place the original of the document or picture you want to scan on the HP 4100 scanner's glass.

      Close the lid and press the Scan button. The HP 4100 will being scanning and start the HP PrecisionScan Software.

      Select a destination folder for your output file and make any adjustments such as selecting the type and size of the document or picture.

      Select "Save" to save the scanned document or "Send" to send it via your email client.

Tips & Warnings

  • You don't have to use the HP software to do your scanning. There are a number of free image software suites like Google's Picasa that support "Import" functions for scanners and digital cameras.
