A pretty cardstock mailbox is a creative project for kids. Make a themed mailbox for Valentine's Day or just make a bright and colorful one for everyday use. Here are some instructions to make a simple mailbox.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Oblong tissue box 8-1/2- x 11-inch cardstock Scissors Ruler Glue gun, craft glue or double-sided tape Butter knife Stickers/markers/paints for decorating

    Make a Paper Mailbox

  1. Step 1

Cut the top off the tissue box to make an open box.

  2. Step 2

Decorate the top of the mailbox. The top of the mailbox will be constructed with one piece of card stock. Use markers, stickers, paint or whatever you choose to decorate the top of the mailbox.

  3. Step 3

Measure 1/2 inch in from both 8-1/2-inch sides of the top piece. Draw lines to indicate this measurement along both sides. Score along these lines by folding the paper on the lines and passing a butter knife along each fold to make the fold sharp and well-defined.

  4. Step 4

Attach the arched top of the mailbox to the tissue box using a hot glue gun, craft glue or double-sided tape. Fold the scored edges of the top under the tissue box and glue or tape them together. Make sure the top is securely attached.

  5. Step 5

Make a back piece to the mailbox. Trace the shape of the opening onto a piece of cardstock. Add several 1-inch-wide tabs around the arched shape. Cut out this back shape (including tabs). Fold and score where the tabs connect to the back.

  6. Step 6

Attach the back piece to the box by placing glue or tape along the scored tabs and affixing that to the back of the mailbox.

  7. Step 7

Cover the front of the tissue box with a piece of cardstock that is the same size as the back piece. Attach this to the front of the tissue box by gluing or taping it securely. The mailbox slot will be the area left open in the front of the mailbox.
