When you buy fog lights they should come with an inline fuse, a relay and a switch for the lights. If they aren't included with the lights, you'll have to buy them separately. True fog lights are yellow whereas running lights are extremely bright secondary lights. Running lights are not helpful in fog; they just create glare and effectively shorten the distance that can be seen. Yellow fog lights effectively increase the distance you can see in the fog.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Phillips screwdriver Set of wrenches Drill with drill bits Volt meter
  1. Step 1

Choose the location for the lights and install them. Look for a pre-drilled mount already present and if not drill a hole and bolt the lights to the bumper or other location chosen. Install the relay on the radiator support shroud or on the fenderwell. Install the light switch under the dash in a convenient out of the way location. You will see the mounting bracket on the light switch. Bolt it to the dash with the screws provided.

  2. Step 2

Install a 10-gauge wire from the main power connection in the fuse and relay box to an inline 30-amp fuse close to the fuse box. Run the wire from the opposite end of the inline fuse to the battery positive (+) on the relay. Run another 10-gauge wire from the battery negative (-) to the fog lights. Always use the correct butt connectors and end connectors when installing electrical components to prevent fire hazards.

  3. Step 3

Install the black ground wire from the fog lights to a good ground on the chassis. Install a 16-gauge wire from the relay SW or switch terminal to the switch under the dash. Install a 16-gauge ground wire from the last terminal on the relay to a good ground.

  4. Step 4

Install a 16-gauge wire from the headlight switch to the fog light switch under the dash. Use the voltmeter and check the wiring harness from the light switch and find a wire that has power just when the main headlights are on. Use an easy hook connector and connect the wire from the harness to the switch. This way, the fog lights will only come on when the lights are turned on and they can be turned off with the switch.
