Remove paint from a sink with a lubricant.

Paint stains in sinks may occur when cleaning paint brushes under running water and not rinsing all the paint from the sink surface, allowing it to dry. Water-based paint is the simplest to remove, as rewetting the paint normally allows it to soften and rinse away. Instructions

    • 1

Moisten a cotton ball with rubbing alcohol and apply to the paint stain. Remove as much paint as possible.

    • 2

Apply a lubricant, such as WD-40 or mineral spirits, to the remaining paint in the sink. Wet a cotton ball with the lubricant and wipe onto the paint stains. Allow the lubricant to soften the paint for 10 to 15 minutes.

    • 3

Scrape the paint stain with a razor blade. Position the razor blade flush with the sink and slowly scrape the paint free from the sink. Apply additional lubricant to the stain if needed.

    • 4

Wipe the loosened paint and lubricant from the sink with a damp rag.

    • 5

Spray the sink with a bathroom cleaner and wipe clean with a sponge. Wet the sponge and rinse the sink with it. Dry the sink with a bathroom towel.

Tips & Warnings

  • Use caution when working with a razor blade. You may also use a plastic scraper instead of a razor to remove paint stains.
