How to Make Your Own Glue Traps for Rats

Glue traps can be an effective way to eliminate a rat problem. Once the rat is stuck onto the glue trap, it can easily be killed (if it's not dead already). You can then throw the trap away. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

    • 1

Cut a piece of cardboard paper into a 7-by-9 inch section.

    • 2

Spread the trap glue, petroleum jelly or any other similar sticky substance onto the piece of paper that you cut out in Step 1. Use a rubber spoon or knife (or other disposable utensil) to spread the substance over one entire side of the paper. Remember to only spread the substance on one side of the paper because you'll be placing the traps on the ground.

    • 3

Place a small amount of rat poison in the center of the rat trap. This will be used to draw the rat to the trap.

    • 4

Set your homemade glue traps. You should place the traps along walls in your home in areas where you have seen evidence of rats. Common places for glue traps are behind your refrigerator, in the corners of your garage and the walls along a closet.

Tips & Warnings

  • You can also use sugar, cereal crumbs or a similar food item in the middle of the trap if you don't have rat poison. The rat will most likely be alive, however, when you find the rodent stuck in the trap. Inspect your trap(s) every day to see if a rat got stuck in the trap. If so, dispose of the rat and place another trap in the exact same spot. Continue doing this until you go several weeks without catching a rat.
