Things You'll Need:
-
Step 1
Adjust the sensitivity of the Acer Aspire 3620 touchpad from the control panel. Lessening the sensitivity of the touchpad might solve the problem. In Windows OS, go to your control panel, and select "Hardware and Sound." Then click "Mouse," and when the new window pops up select the "Settings tab." From there you can adjust the sensitivity.
Acer uses Synaptics brand touchpads. To adjust the settings from the system panel, hover your mouse over the icons near the system clock, and look for an icon that is titled touchpad, Synaptics or mouse. You can click this icon and adjust the settings from there. -
Step 2
Turn off the computer, and clean the touchpad with rubbing alcohol and a soft cloth in case there is a grease buildup on the touchpad. This is the most common cause for touchpad failure. Wait for the alcohol to dry before testing it.
-
Step 3
Remove the touchpad drivers from the device manager and reinstall. Sometimes there can be driver errors that prevent the touchpad from working. Your laptop's device manager can be accessed via the control panel. The drivers should be labeled Synaptics for the touchpad in your Acer Aspire 3620 (see Resources below).
-
Step 4
Replace the touchpad if none of these steps work. Prices can range from $15 to $50 or more plus labor rates. It is best, however, to let a computer professional change this. Major disassembly is required to remove and replace the touchpad in an Acer Aspire 3620, and many fragile components including the motherboard will be exposed during this process.
