Things You'll Need:
- Polar fleece Tape measure 1/2-inch elastic Sewing machine Thread Scissors Pins Fabric pen
-
Step 1
Measure the bench seat to be covered. Write down the entire side-to-side length of the bench seat and the entire span of the bench seat, from the top of the back of the seat down the back and across the sitting area to the bottom front of the seat. Add an additional 12 inches to each measurement for the extra fabric necessary for wrapping around the back and sides of the seat.
-
Step 2
Purchase enough fleece fabric according to the measurements taken and cut the fleece into a piece that fits the measurements.
-
Step 3
Make a casing for the elastic all the way around the edge of the fleece by folding under the edges 1 inch. Pin to secure, and sew the casing, leaving a small opening for inserting the elastic. Insert the elastic but do not cut it off yet.
-
Step 4
Fit the seat cover onto the bench seat. Adjust the elastic to fit the seat cover onto the bench seat, making it tight enough to keep the seat cover in place. Pin this elastic adjustment to secure. Take the seat cover back inside and sew the elastic at the adjusted point. Then, sew the opening left in the casing closed.
-
Step 5
Place the cover back back on the bench seat. Adjust it to fit exactly as you want it to fit. Mark the placement of the seat belts with a fabric pen.
-
Step 6
Take the seat cover back off the seat and carefully make slits in the seat cover at the places you marked. With fleece it is not necessary to finish the raw edges of the slits.
-
Step 7
Fit the seat cover onto the bench seat and pull the seat belts through the slits to finish the bench seat cover.
