How to Use a Kobalt Screw Extractor

When a screw head is worn out and you are not able to extract a screw, then a screw extractor is what you need. Using this simple tool will allow you to remove the screw without a screw head. If the screw is rusted in, make sure to use some WD-40 and let it sit before attempting removal, or will not extract properly. Following the steps will ensure an easy extraction.

Things You'll Need:

  • WD-40 for rusty screws Drill with drill bit the correct size to drill in center of the screw Screw extractor
  1. Step 1

    Drill about 1/4 inch down into the screw with your drill.

  2. Step 2

    Insert the plug tab that came with the extractor.

  3. Step 3

    Turn counterclockwise to unscrew.

  4. Step 4

    Hammer to driver plug tab deeper if it is not grabbing.

  5. Step 5

    Drill, if the screw is long enough, about 1/8 to 1/4 inch deeper if it is not grabbing properly.
