How to Fasten a Flag on a Flagpole
Outdoor flags are a popular accent for many homes, but fastening a flag to a flagpole often confuses or frustrates people.
The key to successfully fastening a flag to a flagpole rests with the halyard, the rigging rope on the flagpole. The goal is to place the strain on the halyard and not on the flag.

The ends of the halyard are knotted to make a loop; the flag should not become a part of this loop. Unfasten the halyard and find the attached snaps.

2
Attach the flag to these snaps and adjust them to be the same distance apart as the grommets on the flag. Do not allow any strain to be placed on the flag while moving the snaps.

Keep the halyard tight and raise the flag.
-

Secure the halyard rope when the flag is in the desired position.

Tips & Warnings
A flag that is properly hung is actually quite loose. The halyard is the only part that is taut and should be where all of the stress falls.
