Instructions

Measuring and Cutting
-
1
Measure your existing comforter and pillow shams to see how much fabric you need.
-
2
Transfer those measurements to your fabric shower curtain and cut. Be sure to leave at least a 1-inch seam margin for sewing.
-
-
3
Transfer the same measurements to your flat sheet and cut that as well. The flat sheet will be used for the back of the duvet cover, and will be soft against your skin while you sleep.
Sewing and Finishing
-
4
Put the right sides of the shower curtain fabric and the flat sheet together and sew a 7/8-inch seam down both sides and across the bottom of the duvet cover, leaving the top open. Sew the top and bottom and one side of the pillow shams, leaving the other side open.
-
5
Measure and cut strips of Velcro for the top of the duvet cover and the side of the pillow shams, and sew or glue the strips to both sides of the opening. Fold the fabric under before sewing or gluing so that when the top is closed, the Velcro will be hidden.

If you choose, you can use the fabric glue to attach decorations around the sides and bottom of the duvet cover for a more custom look. Decorative cording, which can be purchased rather inexpensively at any craft or sewing store, comes in an array of colors and styles.
-
7
Insert your comforter into the duvet cover and your spare pillows into the pillow shams, and close with the Velcro strips. Put them onto your bed and enjoy your new updated look.
