Don't you hate coming home after work and finding another two-pound phone book waiting for you at your door? You didn't ask for it, nor did you ask for the last three phone books you threw into the garbage. Not to mention the four Yellow Pages books you have stashed away in your broom closet that haven't been opened in two years.

If you're not using these books, why not opt out of receiving them until you need one?

From Quick Guide: The Phone Book Guide
Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Telephone Computer with Internet access
  1. Step 1

    Visit the YellowPagesGoesGreen.org website.

  2. Step 2

Complete the short OPT-OUT form to stop receiving phone books (White Pages and Yellow Pages). Enter your name and address (phone number isn't required), and the staff at Yellow Pages Goes Green will contact the Telephone Directory organizations on your behalf informing them of your request.

  3. Step 3

Call the following contact numbers directly, if you do not feel comfortable giving out your home address.

    AT&T/YellowPages: 800.792.2665
    Verizon: 800.888.8448
    Dex: 877.243.8339
    Yellow Book: 800.373.3280 or 800.373.2324

  4. Step 4

When you need a new phone book, White Pages or Yellow Pages/Yellow Book, place a call to the numbers in Step 3 and make your request.

Tips & Warnings
  • The best phone book replacement service is Google's free telephone-based GOOG-411 service. Call 800.GOOG.411 and follow the directions. Enlisting Yellow Pages Goes Green's services might not stop every phone book from appearing at your door. If you still receive them, place a call to the contact numbers above and make your request in person.
  • It's advisable to keep at least one Yellow Pages catalog for emergencies.
