Making toys for any pet can be fun, however making hamster toys needs some thought and consideration as hamsters will chew everything. That being said, given anything that contains any sort of poison could make your hamster sick or even kill it.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Chemical Free Timber
  • Cardboard with as little ink or any glues.
  1. Step 1

Wooden Toys. It's very easy to make cut out pieces of timber for your hamster to both play with and chew on. Ensure the timber is untreated. I have found the best timber to use are fruit trees limbs from your own yard or from a source that you know have never been sprayed.

  2. Step 2

Cardboard Toys can be made easily using old toilet paper rolls, paper towel rolls and more. Check to see first how much ink or glue is contained on the cardboard first. Decorate these with kids paints that are non toxic. You can even paper mache these as well! Basically, find anything at home that is non toxic and your hamster will love it. Balled up old socks are fantastic. Use your imagination. Hamsters are like children and are easily amused although they are very curious and playful creatures

  3. Step 3

Store Bought Toys: When you buy toys from the store, you need to keep in mind that your hamster will chew and eat the toy. Plastic toys are not good. You can buy from the store carrot flavoured pieces of timber which my hamster loves.

Tips & Warnings
  • Even toy bought stores could contain poisonous chemicals that are not suitable for hamsters as they will chew them!
