This article will teach you how to make homemade, mouth watering Hungarian Haluski (homemade dumplings and cabbage).This is a slight variation of the polish version which is noodles and cabbage.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • flour
  • salt
  • water
  • 1-2 eggs
  • 1 head of cabbage
  • 1 large onion- chopped
  • salt
  • pepper
  • fry pan
  • large pot
  • food processor
  • patience
  1. Step 1

    To make the dumplings, add 2 cups of flour, 1 egg, a pinch of salt, and a half cup of water to food processor. Pulse the mixture until it is a pancake like consistency. Next, boil water in a separate pot. Take a teaspoon of mixture and scoop out enough to cover 1/4 to half of the spoon. Dip spoon in pot and remove. Hold mix over boiling water and slowly let drip into boiling water. Repeat until batter is all gone. When dumplings rise to the top of pot, scoop put and place in the bottom of a melted butter lined pot or crock pot.

  2. Step 2

    In a frying pan, place one half stick of butter. Place on medium heat. When melted, add salt, pepper and paprika to taste. Add 1 large chopped onion and sauté slowly.
    Next, cut the head of cabbage into 4 quarters. Shred or cut pieces of cabbage and place them a in frying pan. When onions are at the midway point of being sauted , mix in with cabbage until it the cabbage is soft. Place heat on low.
    Then, add another stick of melted butter to crock pot and place heat on low. Add salt pepper and paprika to taste.
    Drain dumplings the rest of the dumplings and mix in crock pot. *Continue process until desired number of dumplings is reached.

  3. Step 3

    Finally, add the cabbage and onion mix and stir. Add seasoning to taste.
    *serves 6-8
