It is almost St. Patrick's Day so I started thinking about green beer which made me think of Guinness beer, which made me think of Guinness World Records. Guinness World Records was established by the Guinness Brewing company. Yes, they started in a pub as a bar game, but the Guinness World records really took off from there.
Do you think you can make the world's largest green bean casserole, lift the most cars, eat an apple faster than anyone else, or do you have the largest collection of tandem bicycles in the world? How about making or eating a giant ice cream sundae? What do you have the most of, what can you do faster, better, or bigger than anyone else? Just figure out your special talent or collection and apply for a World Record. Applying is the easy part, actually getting your World Record Certificate may be challenging.

Difficulty: Challenging
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • A World Record Claim
  • Computer
  1. Step 1

First you must register as a member at Guinness World Records. Go to their website and fill out an application to be a member.
    http://www.guinnessworldrecords.com/

  2. Step 2

Once you are a member of Guinness, you will be able to enter the Members Only area of their website. In the Member Area you can apply for a record by clicking "Make A Record Attempt".
Follow the instructions on the screen. The website recommends you print your application.
There are two tracks you can follow: 1. Standard Application - this track takes about six weeks to process. 2. Fast Track Application - if time is sensitive apply for the fast track, it only takes about three days to process.

  3. Step 3

After you submit your application, Guinness will email you an agreement regarding your record attempt. It can take up to three days for Guinness to email you the agreement. When you receive it print it out, sign it, and fax it back to them.

  4. Step 4

Guinness will then research your World Record application. They will respond with either an acceptance or rejection letter.

  5. Step 5

If you receive an acceptance letter, Guinness will spell out all the guidelines, and requirements for your World Record attempt. You may then plan and implement your record. You are responsible for collecting all the evidence Guinness requires to prove your record. (Guinness will let you know what they need to prove your record)

  6. Step 6

Mail to Guinness your proof of accomplishment (include all evidence required). They will review your claim

  7. Step 7

If you are successful Guinness will send you a letter and Guinness World Record Certificate. If you are not successful, you will be sent a letter stating what the problem is with your claim.

Tips & Warnings
  • Applying for and achieving a World Record is FREE.
  • You may hire an adjudicator from Guinness to over see your record attempt. The advantage to hiring a representative from Guinness is, that person can immediately declare your World Record. The problem with hiring an adjudicator is, it will cost you money.
  • Track your claim on the Guinness World Records website.
  • Be careful, Don't be too crazy
