It's an annoying and sometimes harmful act that many canines practice when they get bored or are curious about their surroundings. However it is fairly easy to get them to stop digging holes and digging under fences with a few items and a few minutes of your day.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Shovel
  • Stool (preferably the dogs own stool)
  1. Step 1

    Locate the areas that your dog has decided to dig in. This can be a hole in the yard or a passage up against a fence used to escape from a yard.

  2. Step 2

    Place some of your dog's own stool within this hole.

  3. Step 3

    Cover up the hole as best as you can and in the cases of fences try and patch the hole to inhibit the dogs actions in the future.

  4. Step 4

    When the dog goes to dig in the hole, they will be greeted with a smell they are all to familiar with and will stop. For this action to stop, it may take a few times on your part of refilling and covering of the holes.

Tips & Warnings
  • There are "no-dig" sprays out there at local pet stores that do not always work on their own. Adding these steps with the spray's however can help in getting results quicker.
  • If your dog is a breed that requires lots of attention and becomes bored easily than these steps may not help on their own. It will be the owners responsibility to make sure that the dog gets enough attention and exercise throughout it's day.
