Installing a new seat is easy!
Installing a new seat is easy!

Tired of that old, cracked toilet seat? Or just looking for a new design in your bathroom? A new toilet seat can freshen up the look of any bathroom. Easy on the budget and easy to install, freshen up the look of your bathroom with these simple instructions.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Gloves
  • Cleaning supplies
  • Flat-blade screwdriver
  • Adjustable wrench
  1. Step 1

Put on your gloves and clean the toilet seat, rim and bowl. Close the toilet seat lid and locate the screws at the back of the seat. Some screws may have a plastic snap-on cap covering the screw heads; just use your screwdriver blade to pop the cap off.

  2. Step 2

Under the toilet, just below where the screws are, adjust your wrench and hold on to the nut attached to the screw. This may be a plastic screw and nut set, so it might be slippery, just hold it to keep it from turning.

  3. Step 3

Using the flat-blade screwdriver, turn the screw to the left to unscrew the hardware. Remove both screws and nuts. There may also be a washer attached, remove it as well.

  4. Step 4

Remove the toilet set, wipe down the rim of the toilet and remove any rust spots or particles where the new seat and screws will be installed

  5. Step 5

Open the package for the new toilet seat and locate the mounting screws, nuts and washers. Read the directions attached to the package as each package may be a little bit different.

  6. Step 6

Place the new seat on the toilet, with the mounting holes lined up. Insert the screws from the top going through and down below the toilet rim. Under the rim, install one washer on each screw and install one nut on each screw.

  7. Step 7

Using your fingers, push the washer up to the hole (some washers have a lip that will actually fit into the hole) and tighten the nut so the washer and nut are secure. Using your flat-blade screwdriver, turn the screw to the right to make sure everything is secure. Do not over tighten the screw as the washer may crack or the screw may strip. Just a little tighter than finger tight is all you need.
