Step 1
Easter Lily~~Make Sure Your Easter Lily Has Plenty of Water, Cooler Air and Sunlight~~
The most popular and rightly so, the beautiful Easter Lily. Mentioned in the bible and many call Jesus this name because of the purity, life, hope and beauty that He represents. In the Song of Solomon, the bride is called the "Lily" and she describes her lover as browsing among the "Lilies". The church is the bride of Christ and gets her beauty from Him, who is a beautiful flower. These magnificent flowers are said to have grown at the foot of the Cross where His tears, blood and sweat fell and also were found growing in the Garden of Gethsemane after Christ's crucifixion and resurrection.
When choosing a plant, pick one that has partially opened flowers and tight buds so you will be able to enjoy each stage of the flower. Make sure that the stem has foliage and is a healthy green with no signs of bugs, dark spots or wilting leaves. Put your plant in a cooler, 60-65 degree area, away from drafts or sources of heat and in a place where there is bright, indirect light. Make sure the water is not sitting in the bottom of the planter under the foil and only water it when it is completely dry. To make the flowers last longer, remove the long anthers from the open flower, before the pollen touches the petals and remove all dead leaves. Plant the bulbs a few inches deep in the ground when all chances of frost are gone.
All parts of this plant are poisonous if ingested by children or pets. -
Step 2
Lily of the Valley~~Give Your Lily of The Valley Cool Temperature, Plenty of Water and Plant Outside in a Moist, Shady Area~~
The fragrant "Lily of the Valley" is a wonderful memory of Easter flowers for me as I would pick them from along side of my childhood home and put them in a vase for my mother to enjoy. Jesus spoke of them in Luke 12:27 as to how they grow in their splendor, referring to the effortless glory, purity and simplicity of His bride. These flowers are very fragrant and spread abundantly where they are planted, how significant are these flowers!
To pick a healthy plant is not hard because they are very easy to care for, so it should be blooming with closed buds as well and not have brown, withered leaves. They do well in partial shade and should have fertilizer in the soil as well as a lot of water so check it often to keep hydrated.
All parts of the plant are considered poisonous to children and pets if ingested. -
Step 3
Flower of Love~~Give Your Roses a Lot of TLC~~
The Rose, or the "Rose of Sharon" is mentioned also in the bible in Song of Solomon. This, again is referring to Solomon's wife, but is said to be symbolic of the perfection of Christ and the gift of God in giving us His perfect Son.The Rose is a different type of flower than the Rose of Sharon but the meaning is significant because Sharon is a large, fertile plain in Palestine that was known for it's vast array of beautiful flowers in the days of Solomon and the majesty of the Rose of Sharon growing in the Palestinian valley. Almost all women love to get Roses and how significant that God gave us His Rose of love!
Indoor Roses are trickier to keep happy so pick one that is blooming with buds, healthy looking leaves and does not have white spiders mites on it. They do better outside but if you have one inside for a short time, make sure it is in direct sunlight in a cooler temperature. Spray it completely with water weekly to keep spider mites off and water the soil often.
Cut Roses usually come with a packet of "flower food" to put in the water and do well in a cooler room. Do not put them in direct sunlight, heat or air conditioning, and if possible, put them into a cool, dark place at night to keep them fresh longer.
Some Roses are toxic and some aren't, so to be safe, keep them out of the reach of children and pets. -
Step 4
Grape Hyacinth is the flower of forgiveness~~Make Sure Hyacinth Plants Have a Cool, Sunny Area and Plenty of Water~~
The beautiful Hyacinth blooms right around Spring and fills a home with such fragrance, it is one of my favorites. The different colors are said to represent Christ like character such as: forgiveness, prayer, constancy, play and even jealousy. Is Christ a jealous lover? yes, indeed but with a Holy jealousy for His bride to stay pure and wait for His imminent return. Just as He rose from the grave and ascended into heaven, He will come again in like manner for those who have accepted His atoning work on the Cross. He lives!
To pick a healthy plant, look for blooming flowers as well as tight buds and glossy, dark green foliage that is firm. Hyacinths like bright, indirect light, away from heat or air conditioning and water every couple of days. Plant the bulbs in the early fall in rich soil.
These plants are extremely poisonous if ingested.
