Have you ever cried over spilled milk, wine, or Welch's grape juice?

Well no more...here are some very simple tips on how to remove stains from furniture, clothing and more...

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Red Wine Stains on Carpets - Immediately blot the spill with warm water. Blot dry, and then work the foam from a carpet cleaner/shampoo into the stain. I like to use Oxiclean Multi-purpose stain remover. Sponge with clear water and repeat as needed.

Tip: If you have spilled red wine on your carpet, pour some white wine over the red wine immediately. Blot the liquids, then using clear warm water sponge the spill. Then pat the area dry.

  2. Step 2

Red Wine Stains on Clothes - Rinse fresh wine stains in warm water. If the stain is still there, soak the garment in a laundry borax solution (1 TBL borax to 2 cups of warm water), then wash according to fabric instructions.

Delicate fabrics - Bleach stains on white wool or silk with hydrogen peroxide solution (dilute 1 part peroxide and 6 parts cold water)

  3. Step 3

Dried Stains on Furniture - Mix equal parts vinegar and water together, apply to the stain. This will loosen the stain. Leave this on for at least 30 minutes. Sponge off with a solution of warm water and dish washing liquid. Dawn dish washing liquid works very well for this. Wipe with a damp sponge/cloth that has been dipped in clear water.

  4. Step 4

Fresh Stains on Furniture - Blot and sponge with warm water and blot again. Repeat if needed. For tough stains, cover with talcum powder while the spill is still damp.

After a few minutes, brush the powder off using a soft brush or cloth. Repeat until the stain goes away.

  5. Step 5

Beer and Alcohol Stains on Clothes - Rinse or soak in tepid water, then wash per fabric instructions.

On whites, use a hydrogen peroxide solution to bleach any remaining marks.

On colors, sponge with a white vinegar solution (2 TBL vinegar in 2 cups water) until stain goes away.

Beer on furniture - Blot thoroughly, then sponge with a damp cloth from warm water. Any remaining stain can be sprayed with a spray-on stain remover

  6. Step 6

Beer on Carpets - Sponge with clean, warm water, then blot. If still stained use a carpet shampoo solution (such as the OxiClean Multi-purpose cleaner.

Alcohol stains - Treat as you would with beer, acting quickly to prevent color from soaking into the carpet. If color remains sponge with denatured alcohol on a damp cloth or sponge.

Old beer stains on carpet - Gently wipe old beer stains on carpets with denatured alcohol until mark fades.

  7. Step 7

Fresh fruit juice - On clothes, rinse under cold running water to remove as much of the stain as you can. Treat with denatured alcohol or a stain remover if any stain is still visible.

On carpets, blot with paper towels. Rub the area with a laundry prewash stick and let sit for a few minutes. Rinse, blot and shampoo. Treat any remaining stain with denatured alcohol.

On furniture, Sponge with cold water and blot dry. Use a liquid stain remover.

  8. Step 8

Fresh milk stains on clothes - rinse in tepid water, then wash as usual. Use a liquid stain remover if a grease mark persists. Gonzo Liquid Stain Remover works great on this kind of stain.

Dried milk stains - Soak the item in enzymatic detergent if the fabric is suitable

  9. Step 9

Fresh milk stains on carpets - Sponge with clear, warm water and then apply a spray cleaner.

Dried milk stains on carpets - If a milk stain is allowed to dry, the smell may return after cleaning. You will want to use a professional carpet cleaner.

Tips & Warnings
  • Keep these cleaning items in a "stain cleaning kit"...this way when something happens, you will have everything you need to make sure the stain doesn't stick around.
