A yoga workout can relax the body and soul, while bringing balance to the individual. The Down-Face Dog yoga position stretches the spine and hamstrings while building flexibility.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • optional yoga mat
  1. Step 1

    Start on your hands and knees in the dog/cat position with the back arched and face looking up. Your hands should be flat on the floor, knees slightly parted.

  2. Step 2

    Curl your toes under to prepare to roll up to Down-Dog position.

  3. Step 3

    Push up with your hands, bringing heels to the floor if possible. Your back should be straight, with your head just inside your arms looking through your legs.

  4. Step 4

    Hold this position for a breath. The more you practice, the more easily you will be able to move to this position, and the more flexible you will become.

  5. Step 5

    To come out of the down-face dog position, you can walk your hands towards your feet, moving into the forward fold position. After a breath, draw your hands up, over your head and return to the resting position.

Tips & Warnings
  • You may need to bring your hands slightly closer to your feet if your are stretched too far to bring your heels to the floor.
  • You may bend your knees if you need to
  • Before starting any exercise routine, consult your doctor.
