Things You'll Need:
- 1 loaf crusty french bread
- 3 tomatoes
- fresh basil (add as much as you desire)
- two balls of fresh mozzarella
- 3 tbls. olive oil
-
Step 1
Start with dicing up the three tomatoes, and putting them into a bowl.
-
Step 2
Take the basil, I usually use at least five big leaves, we love it, but if you do not like it use less, and dice it up into tiny pieces. Add the basil to the bowl.
-
Step 3
Put the 3 tbsp. of olive oil into the bowl and mix the three ingredients together. Put the bowl aside and let the ingredients sit together for a couple minutes, an hour if you have time but it doesn't really matter.
-
Step 4
Take the french bread and but it in half then cut both halves in half the long way like you cut open a bagel or if you were making a sandwich.
-
Step 5
Spoon the tomato mixture onto the four pieces of french bread, make sure you cover the hole surface of the bread, pour any left over olive oil over the bread.
-
Step 6
Take the two balls of mozzarella and slice them both into thin layers. each ball should give you about ten slices. Put the mozzarella over the tomato mixture on the bread.
-
Step 7
Start your grill, you are going to use indirect heat, if you are using a charcoal grill push the coals to one half of the grill, I use a propane grill with two burners so I only turn the left side one on. Once the grill is hot inside put the four pieces of bread on the side of the grill with no direct heat underneath it.
-
Step 8
The bread should take about fifteen minutes but keep checking on it. I usually try to brown the edges of the bread and get the cheese to look a little baked. Once done bring bread inside, cut each section of bread into four or five sections and yell COME AND GET IT. Everybody will absolutely love this.
