I consider myself among the fortunate, blessed folk, as I was born on St. Patrick's day, many, many years ago--and that's no BLARNEY! Of all the places I've celebrated this day, among my all-time favorites would have to be Savannah, GA. I highly recommend you go there at least once in your lifetime, whether you are 21 or 121! There are sights, sounds, smells, and sumptuous foods to eat and fantastic beverages to consume! Schools and municipal buildings are closed in observance of this holiday so everyone can witness the parade in all its glory. The party never ends from the night prior til the day after; it is amazing!

Things You'll Need:

  • Lots of cash for drinks, food, and sundries
  • Happy demeanor
  • Friends to accompany you
  • Hotel reservations a year in advance (for a good hotel)
  1. Step 1
    St. Pat's Day Parade

    St. Pat's Day Parade

It's a great time when everyone is celebrating "your" special day with you. The whole city of Savannah really knows how to throw a party! I suggest booking a year in advance, if you want lodging along river street, the most accessible street to all the activities!

  2. Step 2
    The infamous, famous River Street

The city itself has so much history! You can sign up for tours or visit the shops up and down River Street. Or you can meander throughout the town and find fun, festive shopping during the day time and chill out in a jazz club in the evening. Some of the best food you will ever eat, from sweets to steaks and seafood, will come from Savannah. Bring along an empty credit card and prepare to fill it up during this visit, because there are a lot of sights to see and food to eat!

  3. Step 3
    Leprechauns were here!

As you walk through the parks, you will notice the water in the fountains has been dyed green. Years ago the river would be dyed as well, but the city has since stopped that practice. Be a tourist, get some beads, hats, and souvenirs and have a photo taken of yourself and loved ones by the pretty, green fountains!

  4. Step 4
    Bead bartering is a blast!

Though St. Pat's in Savannah can be thoroughly enjoyed by persons of any age, I think if you want to run with the wild crowd, I'd recommend you be between 21-35; otherwise, stick with the family-related activities and restaurants. It gets pretty messy down on River Street after dark on St. Patrick's evening!
