A baby changing table is an important part of your child's nursery. Sometimes they can be quite expensive, but there is a way that you can have a functional place to change your baby's diapers and it not cost you a lot of money. You can simply use a dresser as your baby's changing table. The best part about using a dresser is that you can reuse it for years to come unlike a traditional baby changing table that is usually only good until your baby out grows it. Here is how you can turn an ordinary dresser into a functional changing table.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Find a dresser that will be suitable to make a baby changing table. Ideally you will all ready own one, but if not, you should be able to find a good deal on a dresser at a consignment store or yard sale. You can also go ahead and buy the dresser that will match the furniture your child will use when they get older. The dresser should be waist high. Anything taller will make it difficult for you to change your baby's diapers.

  2. Step 2

Buy a baby changing table pad and pad covers. These can be found in most baby stores or at places like Target or Babies R Us. Make sure that it will fit properly on top of your dresser.

  3. Step 3

Fill the drawers of your baby changing table with diapers, wipes, lotions, and any other supplies you might need to change your baby. You can also keep extra clothes in the dresser drawers for all of those little accidents that will happen when you change your baby's diaper. Probably one of the best advantages to using a dresser for your baby changing table is all of the supplies are hidden and it is less likely that your baby will get into them when they reach the age where they can pull up on things.

Tips & Warnings
  • Buy baby changing pads in colors that will match your nursery theme. Ones that have a little bit of a pattern to them will hid the poop stains better.
  • Never leave you baby unattended on any baby changing table. You don't want the first time you see your baby roll over is when you left them alone on the table.
  • If your child gets urine or poop on the changing table, wipe it up immediately. It can take the finish off of the dresser.
