Relate to The Elderly

The baby boomers are up and coming. Within the next few years, we will see a spike in the elderly population. How we interact with the elderly now will set an example for generations to come.

Things You'll Need:

  • Understanding
  • Compassion
  • Respect
  • Patience
  • A whole lot of love
  1. Step 1

Having a clear understanding of what it means to age is necessary when relating to the elderly. No one can escape the reality that one day we will all follow in our grandparent's and our parent’s footsteps when it comes to aging. We will all be older some day.

  2. Step 2

When we show compassion towards our elderly, it helps them cope with the aging process. Compassion can build an alliance between an older person and a younger relative, friend or stranger. We need to acknowledge the feelings and everyday trials and tribulations of the elderly.

  3. Step 3

The elderly deserve the utmost respect. They raised children, they worked all of their lives and they set examples for younger generations to follow. We should always hold them in the highest regard. Respect them for the values they instilled, and for the life that they created for us.

  4. Step 4

Be patient when dealing with older people. Understand that they have more aches and pains, they have sleepless nights and they experienced all the good and bad that life has to offer. Put yourself in their shoes and try to imagine all they have gone through. With this, you can be a positive figure in their life.

  5. Step 5

Give lots of love, love, love.
