If you don't have private health insurance, you will have a hard time affording medication. Apply for Medicare if you have not already done so.

Luckily, many prescription drugs are available free from the manufacturers. If you are having trouble paying for your medications, you will need to find out what company manufactures the drug, and contact the companies directly to get more details.

Some of the manufacturers that offer these programs include Bristol-Myers Squibb, Abbot Labs, Merck, Pfizer, and Eli Lilly just to name a few. Once you know the company that manufacturers the prescription drug you need, go to Google and find the company's contact information.
-
4
Contact the manufacturer and find out if they offer a free program for people who cannot afford prescription medications.

5
If you are a senior citizen, with or without health insurance, the government can help you. Call the U.S. House of Representatives' Special Committee on Aging at (202) 224-5364. Request the free Information Paper on Programs to Help Older Americans Obtain Their Medications. Once you receive the report, read it carefully and discuss the options with your doctor.
-
6
Ask your doctor for samples. You may be able to obtain enough samples to tide you over until you can participate in a free program, or until you can afford to pay for your meds.
