If you e-filed your tax return and requested that the tax refund be directly deposited in your bank account, the IRS states you should have your tax refund within a 3 week period. If you chose to file a paper tax return and asked the check be mailed to you, expect a wait of up to 8 weeks to get your tax refund.

The IRS has an easy and secure website where you can track down your tax refund. The website is titled "Where's My Refund?". You can get tax refund information for the most current tax year that you have filed. You can also get prior year tax refund information.
You will need to enter the following information:
+ Social Security Number
+ Filing Status (Single, Married, etc.)
+ Tax Refund Amount - exact whole dollar amount shown on your tax return.The link to their website is in the resource section at the end of this article.

If you find out that your tax refund was returned as undeliverable by the post office, then you can update your address using the same system.
If the proverbial tax refund check is "in the mail", the tax refund automated system will notify you of this information.
