Things You'll Need:
- large glass jar or shoebox
- lots of pennies
-
Step 1
Talk to your child about the reason we observe Lent, what it means, and why it is important. There are lots of books that are kid-friendly for this if you need some extra help.
-
Step 2
Decide what kind of container your child will use for the project. Let your child decorate the container as appropriate.
-
Step 3
Use a calendar to mark off the days for Lent. For the first day, put one penny in the jar or container. For the 2nd day, put 2 pennies. Third day = three pennies. Continue depositing pennies in the container for the 40 days of Lent.
-
Step 4
Let your child give the money to your church on Easter Sunday. Or, if you do not belong to a church but still observe Lent, consider letting your child donate the pennies to charity for Easter.
