Things You'll Need:
- Iron
- Waxpaper
- Corn flour
- All-purpose surface cleaner
- Soft toothbrush
-
Step 1
Start cleaning crayon stains from wallpaper as soon as you find crayon drawings on the wall. Crayon markings can permanently stain wallpaper, so it is critical that you try to remove crayon from wallpaper before the crayon stain sets.
-
Step 2
Heat up an iron (a regular iron used for clothes) on the iron's low or medium heat setting.
-
Step 3
Cover the hot iron element with the sheet of wax paper. Place a piece of paper towel over the wallpaper crayon stain and slowly press the hot iron onto the paper towel. A hot iron is one of the best ways to remove crayon from wallpaper. The wax in the crayon stain will slowly melt and will be wicked into the absorbent paper towel material. Once most of the crayon has melted and you've removed the crayon stain from the wall, continue to Step 4 to clean any leftover crayon marks.
-
Step 4
Mix one part corn flour (any brand or type will do) with 1.5 parts all-purpose cleaner. The cleaner will help remove any crayon markings from the wallpaper while the corn flour acts as a very mild scrubbing agent to remove the crayon and protect against stains. Apply to the wallpaper and scrub the crayon stain with a soft brush until the stain is clean. Wipe with a damp cloth to remove any cleaning residue.
-
Step 5
Consider covering and painting your wallpaper with a protective, clear coat finish to protect the wallpaper from crayon stains and other damage. A coat of protective finish will cover the wallpaper and keep the wallpaper clean. Clear wall finish can be purchased at your local hardware store, or bought online from Amazon (link in the Resources section). Apply according to the paint manufacturer's directions and allow to dry completely. A coat of wall finish will make cleaning wax and crayon stains easier.
