Special Characters

Sometimes you need to insert a special character into your document that doesn't appear on your keyboard. (By special characters I mean © for copyright, ¢ for cents, etc.) Windows provides you with a special program called a character map that allows you to do just that. There are different character maps available for each font on your computer.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Click the Start Button then click on All Programs--then on Accessories--then on System Tools--then on Character Map

  2. Step 2

If you do not see the symbol you want, it may not be available in that particular font. To search for it, click the Font list arrow and choose another font, you may have to check two or three fonts to find what you want.

  3. Step 3

Double-click on the character you want to use.

  4. Step 4

Click on Copy (this places the character on the clipboard). Then Click Close.

  5. Step 5

Click in the document where you want the special character to appear to place your insertion point.

  6. Step 6

    Click Edit--Paste OR CTRL + V
