Things You'll Need:
- Bocce ball set
- open area
-
Step 1
Select teams. Bocce ball is played by two teams that can consist on one, two or four people each.
-
Step 2
Find somewhere to play. You can play in your back yard, at the beach or anywhere else you've got some open, level ground.
-
Step 3
One team starts the game off by throwing the jack. This is a small ball that the teams will aim for when throwing or rolling the bocce balls.
-
Step 4
One of teams will then throw or roll a bocce ball, trying to get as close to the jack as possible. After this, the other team will go and you just continue alternating until all the balls have been thrown. An alternative approach is to let the team that's farthest away continue to throw until they get closer to the jack. Besides just trying to get close to the jack, players can attempt to hit other bocce balls or even the jack itself. This allows for some more complex strategies.
-
Step 5
After the teams are done throwing, tally up the score for that round. There are a couple ways of doing this. One way is to only give points to the team that got closest to the jack, giving them a point for every ball that is closer that the opposing team's closest ball. Another way is to give out points for the three closest balls, giving out three points for the closest, two for the next and one for the next. You can play to however many points you want and even use other scoring variations if you'd like.
-
Step 6
Once you've tallied the score, the team that won the round starts off the next by throwing the jack to a different location. Just keep playing rounds until one team scores enough points to win the game.
