The ability to research stocks online can be had by anyone, thanks to the internet. In the age of the information super-highway, online tools for stock research are a click away. From information on dividends to financial statements of particular companies, the information abounds. The same could be said for ETFs and Mutual Funds. Here's how to research stocks online.

  • A computer connected to the internet
  1. Step 1

    Turn on your computer and make sure it's connected to the internet. Then open an internet browser. Type in the phrase "stock research" or "stock quotes".

  2. Step 2

    Navigate to some of the best sites for online stock research. Sites like: marketwatch.com , fool.com , yahoo finance , investopedia.com or cnn money are all excellent sites. Many of them provide real-time stock quotes and up to date information needed to research stocks online.

  3. Step 3

    Once you've navigated to the particular stock research site, enter the ticker symbol or company name into the search box. A ticker is the abbreviation for that particular company. For instance, "GE" is the ticker for General Electric. From here you can research historical prices, P/E ratios, dividends, and all types of financial data on each company. This is basically how to research stocks online.
