Step 1
Tackle BoxYou can begin by buying a box with compartments. I have found that a sewing basket is what I like but you can also use a tackle box. Many of the items you will keep in your box will be small so the tackle box may accomplish your goal just as easily.
-
Step 2
ThimbleYou will definitely need measuring devices such as tape measures, a ruler and a seam gauge. You also need a thimble that fits your middle finger without falling off.
-
Step 3
ScissorsDon't forget cutting implements. Possibly a small pair of scissors a medium pair of sewing shears and a pair of pinking shears.
-
Step 4
Sewing PinsA supply of rustproof needles, sharp and ball point. You will need a pin cushion as well as rustproof pins.
-
Step 5
ThreadsThreads in a variety of colors and weights. Different weights are used for different types of materials.
-
Step 6
ButtonsFrom time to time you will also need a variety of snaps, hooks and buttons. You can have a few of these on hand but may also need to buy specific types when you are actually working on a project.
