How to Give Age Appropriate Chores To Your 5 Year Old
When your children are young and see you cleaning the house, oftentimes they want to emulate you and help out. By giving your child age appropriate chores when they're young, it's more likely that they will continue helping around the house as they grow older. You'll get the best response from your child if you make a game of it. Get popsicle sticks and write one chore on each stick. Then each day they can chose one or two sticks and carry out that task. This gives variety and keeps mundane tasks interesting. You can even have sticks that are empty so that some days they get a "day off".

Your 5 year old can also tear up lettuce for a salad. Pouring drinks is another great way to let your child help. They can also prepare the dinner table. When you're assigning tasks, take a few minutes to teach them how to accomplish the chore. Of course they won't clean as well as an adult. So be sure not to follow behind them trying to make it look perfect. That will just undermine their work and they won't want to help you anymore. Though you can give your child pointers for improvement, always remember to praise them after completing every task.
