Buying a snow blower is a big investment so it is a good idea to make sure you are getting what you paid for. Here's how to buy the best snow blower cheap!

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  1. Step 1

The very first thing I like to do when making a big purchase such as a snow blower is to shop around on price checking websites that include user reviews. Epinions and PriceGrabber are excellent places to start. Just search the word snow blower and take it from there! See my resources for a direct link to both of these price checking websites.

  2. Step 2

If you have a small piece of property such as a store front or a short driveway and walk, a cheap snow blower under $300 will probably do the trick.

If you have a large property, you will need to buy a more powerful blower that will cost much more money. A cheap snow blower will just not do the trick and will not last very long. When it comes to snow blowers, you often get what you pay for.

  3. Step 3

Another thing you will want to consider is whether you want to buy an electric blower or a traditional gas blower. Electric is better for the environment than gas but if you have a very large piece of property, this will not do. Electric is also easier to deal with since you never need to worry about getting gas for it.

  4. Step 4

Large hardware retailers like Lowes and Home Depot are good places to shop when buying a snow blower when it comes to price. The only problem is they are generally so large that you may not be able to get the type of customer service you would like when buying something as expensive as this. If you need servicing for your snow blower, you'll probably be out of luck as well.

  5. Step 5

Shopping clubs like Sam's Club, Price Club, Costco and BJ's may have these seasonal items in stock at a discount price that other stores cannot compete with. The thing is, once you see what you like, you'll have to buy it pretty quickly because they won't stay in stock long.

  6. Step 6

Your local lawn equipment store may charge a bit more for their products but you should be able to get very good customer service when it comes to the product both before purchasing and after. If something should go wrong with your blower, they should be able to repair it for you. If you are buying an expensive snow blower, this may be the way you want to go.

Be sure to research the price on the price checking websites I mentioned before purchasing so that you know if you are getting ripped off or not. You may be able to work out a deal with the owner or manager of the store if you mention that you've seen the same snow blower for cheaper elsewhere.

  7. Step 7

While I don't love snow blowers because of their impact on the environment, shoveling snow may be dangerous to your health. If you are concerned about your health, please take into account the weight of the machine before you purchase it. While they do have wheels and power, there may be a good amount of pushing. The heavier the snow, the more strength you will need. Unless, of course, your property is so big that you will be on a ride on model!
