You can make Bisquick mix for about the same amount of effort it would take to go to the store and buy Bisquick. You will save a lot of money if you make Bisquick mix yourself!

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • 8 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/3 cup baking powder
  • 2 teaspoons salt
  • 8 teaspoons sugar
  • 1 cup shortening (like Crisco)
  • hand mixer or food processor
  • bowl
  • container with a lid
  1. Step 1

Measure out the flour, baking powder, salt, sugar, and shortening into the same bowl. I find it's best when I make Bisquick mix to add dry ingredients first and add the shortening over the top.

  2. Step 2

Mix the ingredients together either with a hand held mixer or a food processor. The Bisquick mix will look like a coarse meal. I prefer to make Bisquick mix with a hand held mixer in a bowl.

  3. Step 3

Store the Bisquick mix covered either in the refrigerator or in the cupboard. I prefer to store it in my refrigerator. I put a lid on the bowl I used to make the Bisquick mix and put it in the refrigerator as is.

  4. Step 4

Use the Bisquick mix in place of Bisquick in any recipe that calls for it, using the same measurements, from waffles to chicken fingers to biscuits to pancakes.

Tips & Warnings
  • This recipe is fairly easy to half if you want to only make half the recipe. I usually make Bisquick mix in half of the amount.
  • Be sure to choose a deep enough bowl to mix in if you choose to use a hand mixer so that flour does not fly all over your kitchen!

on 4/2/2009 Yes, it is cheaper for me because I buy flour in bulk.

on 4/2/2009 Have you found this to be cheaper than buying bisquick? It's got to be somewhat healthier since there are no preservatives, right? I think I am going to try this tonight and make Bisquick blueberry muffins out of it!
