Turn cards into bookmarks

Don't toss out all those Christmas, birthday or all occasion cards! You can re-purpose them into many different things including bookmarks, other cards, collages, place cards and more.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Used cards
  • Scissors
  • Ribbon
  • Hole Punch
  • Glue
  1. Step 1

Gather up all those cards that you would normally toss aside after the holiday's or a birthday along with a pair of scissors, ribbon, glue, etc.

  2. Step 2

You can use different cutting scissors on the cards to cut out the parts of the cards that appeal to you or to just put a fancy border around a whole card that you like.

  3. Step 3

You can cut out the outside border of a pretty card to use as a frame for a favorite photo.

  4. Step 4

Use a hole punch to punch a hole in the top for adding ribbon, beads, tassels to make a bookmark that you can give as a gift or use yourself. You can add another pretty colored paper glued to the back or a pretty piece of cloth trimmed out with some ribbon.

  5. Step 5

Make a collage of any size and frame it for decorating at Christmas or birthday parties. You can trim them out with ribbon, buttons, bows etc and frame in a shadow box or any frame that appeals to you.

  6. Step 6

You can print a greeting inside a blank card then simply use your glue, ribbon, card pieces, buttons, bows, etc., to make a whole new card that you can give for that next special occasion.

Simply add a pre-made tassel (or make your own) and use as a bookmark or give as a gift. The bookmarks will last for a really long time and will remind you of the person who sent you the card. You can label the back of the card of who sent the card to you and when if you wish for remembering that special person years later.

  8. Step 8

Here I used a variety of cards to place under a glass top table for a bit of festive fun in a guest bathroom. Guests loved the look and even picked out cards that they had sent to me in previous years, commenting on the fact that I had saved their pretty cards. You can also do this for a special birthday party or other special occasion for a special decorative touch.

Tips & Warnings
  • Use your imagination and don't be afraid to layer on the card images along with other items like beads, buttons, bows, ribbon or anything that appeals to you.
  • You can use a color theme, a picture theme or simply mix and match for a large frameable collage.
  • Framed collages make great inexpensive decorations at Christmas, birthday's or other special occasions.
  • This is a great project for kids to do as it is simple and fun and they can proudly display or give their creative projects away.
