Air Perms leave the hair in excellent condition.
Air Perms leave the hair in excellent condition.

Air Perms do not use a neutralizer to restore the hair cuticle after processing. The purpose of the air perm is to slowly allow the hair to naturally recover using the oxygen in the air. The resulting curl is stronger, softer to the touch, and looks more natural.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Alkaline home perm kit.
  • Rods.
  • Hair net.
  1. Step 1

Use an Alkaline home perm. Follow the directions until the solution has finished processing and you have rinsed the rods. (You will not use the neutralizer that comes with the perm kit.)

  2. Step 2

After rinsing the rods, blot dry and place a hair net with over the rods. (You can use coffee stir sticks to keep the bands off the hair and help keep the rods in place.)

  3. Step 3

Be careful not to distrub the rods. Leave them in for 24 hours.

  4. Step 4

The next morning the hair will be dry. If it is not yet dry, sit under a dryer until it is completely dry.

  5. Step 5

Remove the rods, rinse, and condition.

  6. Step 6

The oxygen in the air oxidizes the perm, or reforms the hair to the curl pattern in the rod. When the hair is dry the perm is done.

  7. Step 7

The resulting perm looks very natural with little to no damage to the hair, far better than when neutralized.

Tips & Warnings
  • An Air Perm can only be done with a akaline perm.
