Step 1
Apply for WIC -Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children up to the age of 5. You have probably seen items on your grocery store shelves with tags that say "WIC Approved." Go to http://www.fns.usda.gov/wic to see if you are eligible and for instructions to apply.
-
Step 2
Let your church know that you are in need. Many churches have outreach programs that can help you. Even if it is just temporary, every little bit helps.
-
Step 3
Fill out free offers on the internet. Sign up for every food sample you can find. Subscribe to blogs like MoneySavingMom.com, CouponCravings.com, StretchingABuck.com, and Freebies4Mom.com. These blogs post freebies on a daily basis.
-
Step 4
Visit the website FamilyfriendlyAmerica for a list of where kids can eat free. (See the resources section below for link.)
-
Step 5
Start couponing. By learning to coupon and use store loyalty programs, you can often get free items. Many resourceful couponers save hundreds of dollars a month using coupns. See the articles on the sidebar for more eHow articles about couponing. Also see the resources section below for free online coupons.
-
Step 6
Check the Sunday paper inserts. Many national chains like Subway, Quiznos, Blimpie, IHOP, and Denny's offer buy-one-get-one-free deals with a coupon.
-
Step 7
Keep your eyes and ears open for free food events. Local festivals, grand openings, fairs, church events, grocery store theme nights, and carnivals. So what if you pack up the kids and go to the grand opening at the new hardware store? If they are offering free hotdogs and soda, you've scored a free meal.
-
Step 8
Hit the grocery stores and members clubs on Friday and Saturdays at lunch time. You can often nibble on enough samples to replace a meal.
-
Step 9
See the resources section below for more websites where you can get free food or food samples.

on 3/1/2009 Great suggestions. Most people don't realize that WIC income guidelines are quite generous.
