Things You'll Need:
- Large glass measuring container
- Heat source or electric presto kettle
- Thermometer
- Metal utensil
- Skewers
- Glass containers
- Gel
- Fragrance oils
- Liquid or color block dye
- Embeds
- Candle wicks
-
Step 1
Start out my melting the gel. Use a candy thermometer to maintain and reach the desired temperature of 225 degrees F. f you are going to use a glass container for melting, put it into your oven. The Presto Pot is a great tool to use but don't rely on the gauge. Continue to use a thermometer. The gel may take a little bit to melt but while you are waiting, you can move on to the next step.
-
Step 2
Wash out the container that you decide to use thoroughly. Be sure that it is free of any oils or residue or it may cloud your gel. Fully wash and dry the container.
-
Step 3
Gather all of your embeddable object and your wicks. Have them near your container. You are going to want them together and handy for when the time comes to put everything together.
-
Step 4
After your gel has fully melted, you can now color it. Using a toothpick, add a small amount of your desired color to the gel. Stir it well making sure that the color is even throughout the gel. To see the resulting color, you can dip a white piece of paper into the gel. If you are going to add a fragrance, now is the time to add a few drops.
-
Step 5
Next, secure your wick into the bottom of your container, using a small dab of hot glue. Only use a small amount of the hot glue or it can make your candle murky.
-
Step 6
Fill your containers partially with the hot gel. Be care and use gloves so that you don't burn yourself in the process.
-
Step 7
Add your embeds as desired. Use your metal skewers to position them where you want them.
-
Step 8
Top off your containers with wax. Allow the gel to fully form.
-
Step 9
Trim the wick to 1/4 inch from top.
