Nosebleeds can occur for many different reasons, and it's important to stop a nosebleed as soon as it starts. Below is a guide on how to effectively stop nosebleeds.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

The first thing you need to do is stand up straight (or sit up straight). If the blood is flowing down the back of your throat, this is not a regular nosebleed and you need to see a doctor right away.

  2. Step 2

If it's simply flowing through your nose, take a tissue or towel and spread it over your hand. The towel is just to help with any blood, it's not necessary if you don't mind the blood or want to stop the nosebleed immediately.

  3. Step 3

Take your hand and pinch both nostrils together. Push up gently, and slowly. This helps stop the broken blood vessel from bleeding.

  4. Step 4

Keep the nose pinched for 5 minutes, and then release to see if the blood has stopped. If it has not, continue for another 2 minutes, repeating this (if necessary) for up to 15 minutes.

  5. Step 5

If your nosebleed does not stop after 15 minutes, you should see a doctor. Especially if it lasts longer than 30-45 minutes.
