Things You'll Need:
- a bit of time
- patience (so you don't run into a writer's block sooner than later)
- pencils, pens, paper, sticky notes (I recommend the super sticky Post-it Brand Post-it's)
- eHow publishing tool located online
-
Step 1
Time: I think that everyone needs a bit of time to really write something interesting. Have you ever come across an article that you can tell had no oomph to it? Check out quite a few of mine. They're recipes without life that I need to "upgrade." I'm not even sure if they all have images for every step. LOL. Now, sure. I can "get" views easily because there are a lot of people in the world interested in eating some of these signature dishes, but can you sell an article about, let's say...computer networking? You can cram so much into an article that's needed to understand what you're looking for. To really grab a hold of your reader, you need to add that oomph. Some kind of an edge, or humor, even scariness could do the trick. Each article could be from a different feeling and make it interesting that way, or you can choose to keep one feeling and wagon-wheel that through all of your articles. Either way, what you spend your time in writing will be truly interesting with the effort you put into it.

Step 2
Supplies: Arm yourself with Office Max, Staples, Target, and Wal-Mart writing goodies. I must admit, I'm one of those silly people who really enjoy finding a pen or pencil that writes really well, feels "right", and that I don't currently have. I'm a collector and an abuser. I constantly have a fav or two stuck into a bun on the top of my head or in my pony and there's always some handy in my desktop organizer...and many collected in my desk...shame, right?! Find something that you really feel comfortable writing with or just pick up a standard Bic pen. Either way, they'll do the job. Sticky notes are fantastic for writers. Not only does it come in attention grabbing colors to remind you of what's on there, but you can place them anywhere and they'll be there until you or the weather removes them. I prefer the Super Sticky Post-it Notes by Post-it. They truly are the stickiest of stickies. Others may choose to use something on there computer, and more power to you guys! I'd love to, and do for a lot of other things, but stickies seem to be my bag for writing my eHow stuff. Sometimes, if I just have to get an idea down, I'll use a dry erase marker on a white board or a mirror if I'm fresh from the shower. This is truly a life saver in certain moments and maybe that sticky was torn from a child who walked by and felt the urge to grab. Tah-dah! White board and dry erase marker to the rescue! I've got my idea down there, too. (Personally, not always true.)

Step 3
Patience: Anyone found theirs yet? I'm just kidding. I've got to have patience being a mother of 5, going on 6. Dictionary.com lists patience as: the quality of being patient, as the bearing of provocation, annoyance, misfortune, or pain, without complaint, loss of temper, irritation, or the like. Writing usually takes time unless you're just full of never ending ideas and energy or plenty of ideas on Post-it's. Develop your idea out of ideas and or thoughts you've had in the past or recently...maybe those stickies can help again. Build up interesting tidbits of knowledge and add those in as "step fillers." Here and there you'll run into a writer's block and this is why you've been taking it at a steady pace. You might not have far to go but you've already got some main ideas or points out as a good start. Take a break and relax until you're writing like normal again.
-
Step 4
This step, I feel is pretty self-explanatory. Make sure that you have some kind of personal experience to write from. Write about what you're really good at or write about what your favorite thing to do is. When it's personal, it's easy to add in things that will really make your article pop! And if you don't have any of these to go from, you could always go with what someone else want's to know, what they're interested in by going to the Write tab on eHow's home page, click on the Write Great Articles tab, and scroll down to the Top Requested Articles text link. It'll take you to ideas for writing on what people are demanding. No doubt that this would be interesting to someone, right?!
-
Step 5
eHow publishing tool: You can find this tool by signing into your eHow account. From logging in, you'll be taken to your default Me tab, home page. Now, you can choose to either put your title into the text box that's located directly under the Me tab that says "Share your Knowledge! Write a new Article:""How to:..." and click the Write Now! mustardy orange color or you can click on the Articles tab that's three tabs to the right from your default page Me tab. From here, this is where your publishing happens. Get your information into the tool and add some images, tips, warnings, resources, and whatever else you'd like besides the requirements, and make your choice to SAVE your article to publish laterby clicking on the first blue button, SAVE & PREVIEW if you'd like to see what it looks like before making a final decision (this would be the second blue button in between the first blue button and the mustardy yellow PUBLISH ARTICLE button), or take the plunge and click the mustardy yellow button that says PUBLISH ARTICLE.

on 5/13/2009 Although I have been away for awhile (had to withdraw from my Ehow obsession), I realize that I enjoy reading the articles almost as much as I do writing. I even enjoy reading the comments that go beyond "Great". I appreciate your insight about how to write an interesting and popular article. Thanks. :-)

on 4/11/2009 Ah,a kindred soul when it comes to the collection of writing sticks that might be just a bit better than the last one. Have you tried any of the gel ink filled pens lately? They allow you to rush across the paper was super-great ease at both low-cost and without any tendency to leak onto your clothing. A grand article and worth far more than the 5* allowed me.
