Things You'll Need:
- copper pipe
- pipe cutter
- pencil
-
Step 1
there is really only one right way to cut a copper pipe. that is with a pipe cutter. never try to cut a copper pipe with anything else, like a hacksaw. it will only cause you more grief in the end. also pipe cutters only cost between $5 and $50. it is also just a good tool to own when the need for it arises at 3 a.m. .
-
Step 2
once you know how long you need your pipe, measure it and mark it on the pipe with a pencil. loosen your pipe cutter so it will fit around the pipe and align the wheel blade so it is on your line you marked.
-
Step 3
tighten the pipe cutter so that it is only snug. over-cranking the cutter will warp the copper and not allow for a proper seal when the pipe is installed. spin the pipe cutter around your pipe a few times. now tighten another 1/4 turn, and spin a few more times. continues this process until the pipe it completely cut.
-
Step 4
if you follow these few easy steps, you will have perfectly cut pipes. free of warp or imperfections.

on 3/1/2009 Pipe cutters are great tools. It's amazing the number of things you can build with pipes if you have a pipe cutter.
