Fine, thin hair can be thickened by implementing a few, simple techniques. This article will transform you from thin to thick hair after applying a few products.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • hair volumizer
  • root booster
  • strengthening shampoo
  • infrequent washings
  • clay or mud hair products
  1. Step 1
    give your hair a boost
    give your hair a boost

Don't let thin, fine, brittle hair stop you from experimenting with various products to enhance your hair and give you some more styling options. If you have shorter hair that is fine, by adding a "root booster" to your roots after you get out of the shower, followed by blowing it dry, using your fingers--you will get more height and give your hair more volume.

  2. Step 2
    pump up the volume

Another great product for giving hair volume and luster is the hair "volumizer." Aveda makes a fabulous product for the purpose of volumizing hair. Again, applied to wet hair and then proceed with a diffuser or hair dryer; this product will give your hair the appearance of more volume.

  3. Step 3

One final step to try on thin hair, after using the root boosting and volumizing tools, is applying a thickening mud or clay by rubbing a pea-sized amount between your hands and applying to dry hair to accentuate "pieces" or by massaging into scalp and working it upwards, you will create a lot more volume. Try any combination of these products or use each separately to achieve a perceived, fuller head of hair!

  4. Step 4
    strengthening formula

Taking a break between shampoos, using strengthening shampoos on alternating days will also help give your hair texture. Every-day washing is not recommended and might dry out your hair. Also, use conditioner sparingly, only on spots that actually need it, so as to avoid giving your hair a heavier, more weighted-down appearance.

Tips & Warnings
  • The products suggested are ones I have personally used and know to be effective; however, there are a myriad on the market, depending on your preferences!
  • Sebastian has discontinued making the clay/mud as depicted in Step 3, but they have a new product out that is similar--different packaging. Ask your specialist to assist you.
  • Blow Dry hair upside down for a fuller effect!
