My husband sells fresh shrimp and many of his customers requested a recipe for boiled shrimp. This is a basic recipe where the resulting shrimp can be eaten with a sauce or used in other recipes calling for cooked shrimp.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • seasoning of choice
  • red apple cider vinegar
  • salt
  • water
  • sauce pot large enough to hold shrimp and leave 2 inches at the top free of contents
  • colander
  1. Step 1

In a 3 qt.sauce pot, combine seasoning of your choice (we use appx. 1/4 cup Old Bay Seasoning), 3/4 cup red apple cider vinegar, and enough water to cover the shrimp.

  2. Step 2

Bring the liguid to a boil stirring occasionally to allow the seasoning to disperse through the liquid. You may also add salt to taste.
Add shrimp (deheaded but still in the shell) to the boiling liquid. After 2 minutes, pour into colander and rinse the shrimp with cold water to stop the cooking process.

  3. Step 3

Cover the table with newspaper, place the colander of shrimp on a plate, and place in the center of the table. Serve the shrimp hot with cocktail sauce, melted butter, or sauce of choice and crackers. If you prefer cold shrimp, chill before serving. Each person peels his own and when the meal is over, just roll up the newspaper and put in the trash. How easy is that! Store leftovers in the refrigerator.

Tips & Warnings
  • These shrimp peeled and chilled make a great shrimp cocktail, shrimp salad, or a wonderful addition to a green tossed salad.
  • DO NOT OVERCOOK THE SHRIMP! They will become tough.
