Do you love pastys? Are you wondering, "What in the world is a pasty"? Pastys (pronounced past-e not paste-e) are basically meat and potatoes or other vegetables baked in a pastry shell. Some people use ground beef, carrots, rutabagas, etc., but this recipe calls for only steak, potatoes, and onion. This recipe is for two large pastys and, depending on the appetites involved, feeds two to four people.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • 3 potatoes, peeled and cubed
  • 1/2 chopped onion
  • 1 lb. cubed top sirloin or steak of choice
  • 1 box Betty Crocker Pie Crust Mix or two 9" homemade pie crusts
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  1. Step 1

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Cut up a pound of top sirloin or other steak (even good stew meat will do) and 3 potatoes into bite-sized cubes. Dice 1/2 onion.

  2. Step 2

Make two 9" pie crusts from scratch or use one box of Betty Crocker's pie crust mix. When rolling out the crusts, make them more oblong shaped than round.

  3. Step 3

Place the meat, potatoes, and onion on one end of the pie crust, leaving some room to crimp it shut. Salt and pepper the meat and potatoes if desired. Fold the empty end of the crust on top of the meat and potatoes and crimp the edges closed.

  4. Step 4

Place pastys on greased baking sheet with an edge and bake for 1 hour at 350 degrees or until golden brown. May be served with ketchup and/or butter, or plain if you prefer. Enjoy!

Tips & Warnings
  • Place a sheet of aluminum foil on the baking sheet and spray with non-stick cooking spray for easy clean-up.
  • For smaller appetites, divide the dough into three portions instead of two.
