Things You'll Need:
- 10 1/2 inch cardboard square
- 9 inch cardboard square
- Fabric that you choose
- It helps to have a sewing machine but it can be done by hand
- Thread
- Sewing Needles
- Iron
- Ironing Board
-
Step 1
First take your 10 1/2 inch piece of cardboard and cut your fabric into squares
-
Step 2
Next you will take the 10 1/2 inch square of fabric and place it on the ironing board and set the 9 1/2 inch cardboard on it in the center.
-
Step 3
Use a steam iron and fold each corner and iron as shown. Iron all 4 corners
-
Step 4
Next fold over the fabric in between the corners and iron in as shown in picture. When you have all corners and sides done it will look like this.
-
Step 5
Next, you remove the cardboard and fold in half as shown
-
Step 6
Iron it as shown.
-
Step 7
Next, you fold that in half into quarters and then iron it again as shown.
-
Step 8
When you open it up it will look like the picture with 4 squares as shown.
-
Step 9
Next you take each corn and fold up and iron it as shown.
-
Step 10
This is what the quilting square will look like once you have finished ironing each corner.
-
Step 11
Now you will repeat the above and you will have two pieces. Pick up each triangle and sew these two triangles together.
-
Step 12
Now you take your cathedral fabric, a different piece of fabric which will be a 2 1/2 inch square. A lot of people will use batting. I did not. I took a 6 inch piece of material folded it in half, ironed it, then folded it in half again and ironed it.
-
Step 13
Set this square in your material on to the diamond. Then fold over the edges of the diamond and sew each edge you can sew this by hand or with a sewing machine. I use an older Singer 99k sewing machine which was used for quilting back in the 1950's.
-
Step 14
Now you have a completed square. Start all over again and iron your next square and keep repeating until you have the desired size of your quilt. You make this as big or as small as you want. For a throw on a couch or to fit a King size bed. It will be a nice addition to a bedroom or in the livingroom.
