Promote a Healthy Active Lifestyle and Diet in Your Child

Giving your child the gift of health and fitness is one of the best things you can give them. Studies prove that activity and healthy diets will discourage weight gain and aid in weight loss. We all love our children more than words can express. Why not instill in them at an early age to have a healthy and active lifestyle through good eating habits and exercise. You know what they say, "Old habits die hard"!

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

The hardest part just may be "teaching by example", but it is the most important and the most effective way. Little eyes are watching! Let them see the joy you have in eating healthy and exercising with them. Besides, few things are more fun to a child than playing with mom or dad. This is also a wonderful time to build good family bonds.

  2. Step 2

Start off with healthy and nutritious food. If you don't want your child to eat junk food, don't have it in the house! It's that simple. Have healthy snacks available at all times. Fruits, trail mix, whole wheat toast and jam, cheese and crackers are all examples to include in a healthy diet. Training your child early on will ensure they will grow up loving and appreciating healthy eating and nutritious foods.

  3. Step 3

Get out and get active! Exercising is fairly easy to do when the weather is nice. Options are limitless. Bicycling, jumping on trampolines, swimming, hiking, baseball, Frisbee, walking the dog, playing tag ... the list goes on.

  4. Step 4

When the weather is chilly or snowy think of other ways to have fun and be exercising. Build a snowman, have a snowball fight, teach your kids to ski or snowboard, go sledding.

  5. Step 5

Start your own community fitness club. This is so easy and everyone will have fun. Call yourselves some name such as "All Seasons Sports Club". Then, get in contact with the local public school and reserve a night to have the gym. It's free! Your family and friends and join in for volleyball, basketball, or whatever. Your kids may end up having fun by doing their own thing of just running around like crazy, but they are burning calories and having a blast!
