Pressures, tensions, and bad news have sky-rocketed in your day, and you need a quick fix to give you some stress relief. There are many ways to relieve emotional strain, but one of my favorites is to sip a calming beverage. Beverages can supply you with many stress reducing ingredients such as calcium, magnesium, vitamins, and the critical, life-supporting nutrient known as water. People are individuals when it comes to how food and beverages influence them, so try out different ones suggested here to see what works best for you.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • teas
  • kale
  • green cabbage
  • loose leaf lettuce
  • water
  • lemon or lime
  • bottled kombucha
  • thermos
  1. Step 1

Try one or more of these hot teas: green tea, Mu tea, and Kukicha tea (also called twig tea). Tulsi tea from India is also calming to many people. Chamomile tea or other herb teas are soothing, as well. These teas can be found in grocery or health stores.

  2. Step 2

Try kombucha which is a cold drink known for its restorative qualities. An effervescent drink made from fermented mushrooms, it is highly alkaline so it counteracts the acid that results from the stress of modern life. Bottled kombucha is available in several flavors at upscale grocery and health food stores. The taste is sour and vinegary so it calls for slowly sipping -- but this is good for stopping that rushed, overwhelmed feeling, so enjoy the change of pace! Try it, and see if you don't feel relaxed and pleasantly rejuvenated within an hour of drinking an eight ounce serving.

  3. Step 3

Juice some greens such as kale, green cabbage, and loose leaf lettuces. These are high in calcium and magnesium and will help to you relax. They have a good balance of sodium and potassium which tends to make you feel centered, too.

  4. Step 4

Don't forget about water: it supports health and well-being. Good quality tap water is readily available, inexpensive, and will really quench your thirst. Your cells need water every second to carry out their life supporting functions. To add some flavor, squeeze a quarter of a lemon or lime in your glass of water. Most people can metabolize the weak-acid of the lemon or lime juice so that the resulting effect is alkaline.

  5. Step 5

Plan ahead. Purchase your favorite stress relieving beverages and ingredients at the local health or grocery store, or online, so you have them on hand. If you want to take homemade juice with you, prepare it the night before, and store it in the refrigerator.

  6. Step 6

Prepare a thermos (hot or cold) to take to the office so you have your beverage of choice on hand when you need it. This will encourage you to forego the coffee which often contributes to more nervous tension.

Tips & Warnings
  • To easily release the juice from a lemon or lime, before cutting it, roll it on the counter top while applying pressure.
  • Remember to slowly sip the kombucha.
  • Kombucha is not recommended for children because of the sour, vinegary taste.
