Step 1
Having a raised bed garden, has many advantages over a traditional garden. I will go over some of them ,and give you easy instructions to build your own raised bed garden.
-
Step 2
two side by sideRaised beds are good if you don't have good planting soil on your property, or if you don't really have a lot of room. Take (4) 2x12's
length is determined by the size of garden you want. I like to make
mine 6ft by 4 ft, easy to reach across. Make several if you need more planting space. A couple of small ones are easier to take care of than 1 large Garden. -
Step 3
mixture of soilsNail these boards together, place in a level spot with plenty of sunshine, I like to cover the bottom of mine with landscaping fabric, prior to filling with soil to keep weeds under control. Fill your raised bed with topsoil, compost(I have an article about composting)and
some potting soil. Work all these materials together. -
Step 4
plastic roofIf you have heat sensitive plants or there is a danger of frost, your can attach a cover by place a 2x4 on each end of the bed and span one across to make a sort of roof for your bed. cover with plastic as shown in picture.
