How to Talk To His Ex-Wife

Talking to his ex might not be easy -- but it is necessary.

If there are children involved in a divorce you'll just have to face it -- you'll be seeing a lot of his ex.

You'll have weddings and funerals, graduations and school plays -- maybe even grandchildren!

You don't have to be best friends, but you do need to be polite to each other -- especially in public, if only for the sake of the children.

Things You'll Need

• A positive attitude
• Determination to make things work
• Some mantras

Instructions

1. 

   Take a deep breath and say some things to yourself like "One day at a time" or "This too shall pass".

   You'll be fine.

2. Say "Hello" first.

   It helps if you can get over the "who should acknowledge who" and just be the better person.

3. 

   Mention positive things about the children....and her role in raising them.

   For example, "Johnny is such a good kid. You did a great job in teaching him manners."

4. 

   Don't talk about your husband. Ever.

   If she asks you a question about him, just smile politely and say "I'm sure he'd rather discuss that with you himself."

Tips & Warnings

• Think of a few "safe" things to say before the event.

• Be understanding. Don't get into a tiff if she is not polite or friendly. She's probably still hurting -- and if her kids like you that may make her feel even worse.

• If she is really unreasonable and starts a scene, just leave and take yourself out of the situation.

• If there is name calling, be the bigger person and don't retaliate.
