Things You'll Need:

  • Computer (optional)
  • Internet access (optional)
  • Digital camera (optional)
  • Printing paper
  • Digital photo printer
  1. Step 1

Modern photo papers are coated with resin so the papers would be compatible with inkjet and laser photo printers. Media papers for photo printers are designed with a glossy top and matte back.

  2. Step 2

Basically there are four types of photo printing papers:

    (1) The matte photo paper - - Allows you to print pictures which look like the traditional film photo papers but without the shine; gloss surface. With this kind of print paper, the colors won't bleed or smudge, fingerprint marks won't show and there is minimum glare.

    (2) The soft glossy photo paper (aka. semi-gloss photo paper) - - This type allows you to print photos which have low levels of gloss. The natural colors, especially the skin tones seem more realistic on these papers. In other words, the colors that are produced by this paper are of high quality. On the other hand, it is prone to damage from fingerprints.

    (3) The standard gloss paper - - This kind is for high-quality images and should be your first photograph paper choice. The gloss level of this paper is enough for your photograph to make it stand out from the stack.

    (4) The high gloss photo paper - - This one has the superior quality compared to the other types of photo papers available around, and the most expensive type also.

  3. Step 3

Use photo papers which are thin. Papers too thick will jam in the printer. Buy the recommended brand which is compatible with your printer.

To make high quality prints, it is recommended to use glossy paper and preferably from the printer maker. This is because these papers are designed to work best with the manufacturer inks to produce better and longer lasting prints.

  4. Step 4

Photo paper is pricey. It is good practice to check for the correct size, resolution settings and do a test print on plain paper. We all know that nobody does it right the first time.
